September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to recognize the history and lasting impacts of Canada’s residential school system.
As a school division, Grasslands recognizes the role education plays in building understanding. Today, our schools learned about the history, listened to Indigenous voices and reflected on our shared responsibility to advance reconciliation.

As we prepared to open the doors to our new school today, members of our senior administration team spent some time in the surrounding neighbourhood connecting with residents and thanking them for their patience and understanding throughout construction.
We know the past several months have brought extra traffic, noise and disruption at times, and we truly appreciate the understanding shown by those who live nearby.

The new Brooks Junior High is almost ready to welcome students! 🎉
On Tuesday, September 8, BJHS students will walk through the doors of their new school for the very first time.
With a new building comes a few new routines for arrival, parking, entrances and bus drop-off, so we’ve put together important information to help families know what to expect on opening day.
A few reminders:
*Doors open to students at 8:00 a.m.
*Parents and visitors should use the North East Main Entrance off 5th Avenue East
*Parent parking and student drop-off are available along 5th Avenue East
*The new bus lane is for Grasslands school buses and emergency vehicles only
*Please stay out of the old BJHS site, which is now an active construction area
*Grasslands staff and RCMP will be outside on opening morning to help students and families get where they need to go
There will still be construction fencing and landscaping work around parts of the site, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of BJHS students and families as the final pieces of the project are completed.

Board Chair Pat Connor welcomed Grasslands staff back as he begins his sixth year serving as Board Chair.
Pat shared that he’s especially looking forward to seeing the impact of the new complexity teams and the opening of the new Brooks Junior High School.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as Board Chair again by my fellow trustees. My wish for all staff is to have a positive and fulfilling year. We will always support your efforts.”

We’re excited to welcome our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten families as we get ready for the 2026–2027 school year!
📚 Pre-K & Kindergarten classes begin the week of September 8 across Grasslands Public Schools.
👋 Orientation takes place the week of August 31, and teachers will be reaching out to families with details.
A few reminders for families:
*Pre-K families: If you haven’t completed your registration package, please check your email. Families who have previously inquired about Pre-K can also expect a phone call this week.
*Kindergarten families: There’s still time to register your child online.
*School supply and calendar information can be found on your school website, with additional Pre-K information available at orientation.

An Update for Brooks Junior High School Families! We know how excited our students, families and staff are to step inside the new Brooks Junior High School, and we’re almost there!
The official opening date for BJHS students will now be Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
After touring the school, the Grasslands Board of Trustees decided to give our teams a little more time to ensure everything is safe, ready, and prepared for students.
A lot is happening behind the scenes right now. BJHS staff are unpacking and getting classrooms ready, while construction crews and our Maintenance, IT and custodial teams continue putting the finishing touches on the building.
We know waiting a little longer isn’t easy, especially with so much excitement around the new school, and we truly appreciate our BJHS families' patience and understanding.
We'll share more information about opening day with families as we get closer. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors!
