Grasslands Parent Councils are pleased to invite students, parents, caregivers, and educators to a free screening of Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age on Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Griffin Park Theatre.

Created by physician and filmmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston, Screenagers explores the challenges many families face as young people spend more time on screens, social media, video games, and the internet. The documentary looks at how technology can affect attention, development, self-esteem, and mental well-being, while also offering practical and balanced strategies for building healthier habits.

By bringing students, families, and educators together in one room, the film creates a shared starting point for meaningful conversations about boundaries, balance, and healthy technology use.

This free screening is open to students, parents/caregivers, and educators. We hope you will join us for this important community learning opportunity!

Chronic absence doesn’t just affect academics. It’s also linked to a decline in student engagement, social-emotional development, and executive functioning, which includes skills like focus, organization, and self-regulation.

Being at school helps children feel connected, confident, and supported. That sense of belonging matters.

Going to school regularly helps children build the social, emotional, and academic skills that lay the foundation for success. Research shows that students who are chronically absent in preschool and kindergarten are much less likely to read and count proficiently by the end of Grade 3 and are more likely to continue missing school in later grades.

Showing up early builds strong habits that last!
